      No.
My Mum was always trying to make me choose something, ANYTHING!
She was worried I would wander aimlessly though life. She’s delighted I’ve chosen a career and is now busy dropping hints about getting promoted etc.
My family would have been happy about any choice I made so long as I made a choice.

Not really. My dad is a mechanic and a number of family members are either engineers or do something technical (couple of scientists etc), but I wasn’t pushed into it, just became interested at an early age because it was all around me. I guess you could call that an influence?

I don’t think so. No one in my family was an engineer and they never suggested it but now my brother and I both are so maybe they had more of an influence than I thought!

Only through some of the trips, tasks and toys that I had as a child. My mum didn’t work whilst I was at school and my dad was a lab technician. My dad has always been hands with fixing car and appliances around the house, so maybe this encouraged me more than I think. However, my parents didn’t explicitly discuss engineering as a potential career choice.

No, not really. Although I loved to play with my big brother’s toys – remote control cars and Meccano and electric trains. I think more than he did!
