Lauren Dransfield answered on 9 Mar 2015:
I’ve always loves designing, building and making things as well as taking things apart to see what’s going on inside. I guess the desire to know how something worked and being able to suggest ways it could work better would be the main things.

Yes, me too!
I was (am) also a big Star Trek fan – and Scotty was definitely one of my heroes. I could also mention MacGyver (another classic TV series)… Of course, these are fictional characters, but they are still inspirational. In the end, in fiction or in real life, engineering is always about solving problems fast, with the bare minimum of material and often in new and innovative ways. -
Joseph Chilcott answered on 9 Mar 2015:
When I look back, I have always enjoyed making things from a young age and taking things apart.. sometimes managing to put them back together. Everything from Cardboard spaceships to mechano and building computers. Science fiction movies also played a big part inspiring me to use my imagination.
However I think what really got me interested in Engineering is the fact it is the use of the sciences to solve real world problems. For me, engineering helps make sense of science. -
Felicity Harer answered on 10 Mar 2015:
I sort of fell in to it… Always been interested by cool ideas and technology so it just seemed like a natural choice. Especially after I did work experience at the BAE Systems Advanced Technology Centre and saw all the cool technology non-engineers have no idea even exists!

I’m with Joe here.
I love science fiction, not all that fussed about actually doing science. (not enough DOING)
Engineering lets you take science and put it to work.
Seeing people do that in all kinds of different fields of engineering is inspirational to me.
