      I love being able to prove theories we’ve had and show people how the (normally not possible to see) parts of our products are working. It’s also great to be able to influence designs for future products based on my results.

      I like solving problems. Solving problems is what clients pay me (well my company) for.
      The problem might well be “Help us design and Build X, Y or Z” or managing the maintenance of a Strategic Road Network.
      I really enjoy getting lots of information about a problem and sifting through it so as to understand it. Once you can understand a problem solutions are usually obvious.
      Actually carrying out those solutions is the tricky next step.
      I get to use the word “Holistic” a lot, I like that word.

      At the moment I’m a researcher in aerospace engineering at the University of Bristol. What’s really interesting about my job, is that I might be designing the wings for aircraft of the future – with new materials, that will make aircraft much more efficient and eco-friendly. So aircraft that pollute less, are less noisy and are cheaper to operate, while still allowing you to travel around the world safely and quickly.
      Some of the work I have done has never been done by anyone else, so I could stumble on an important discovery … (maybe not, but it’s a nice thought!).
      I also work with other researchers and it’s really interesting to find out what problems they are working on, what solutions they are coming up with and how this could change the world in the future.

      Mostly seeing what trends are going to be big 5,10 or 20 years in the future. Things I worked on years ago are just making it to market now!

      Taking a set of customer requirements and creating the best solution I can to meet those requirements. Next to that I actually enjoy debugging problems and hopefully finding solutions. This is usually under pressure but is very rewarding when a solution is identified.
